Arjun Narayan moved from India, where he learned programming as a child, to America for college. He studied computer science at Williams College in Massachusetts and received a PhD at Penn, focusing on distributed systems, security, privacy and scalability. After working as an engineer at Cocroach Labs, he realized there was an unmet need in the market for a powerful streaming database. He founded Materialize to meet that need.
