SmartBear releases insights from its latest code review survey, including the challenges of collaboration across distributed and remote workforce teams

SOMERVILLE, Mass. — Nov. 5, 2020 — SmartBear, a leading provider of software development and quality tools, says that only half of respondents to its 2020 State of Code Review survey are satisfied with their code review process today at their respective companies. Over 700 professionals participated in the survey indicating that the distributed workforce brings more challenges for software development teams with collaborating remotely. The company will share some of the biggest takeaways from the 7th annual survey during The State of Code Review in 2020 webinar on Thursday, November 5, 2020.

“At SmartBear, we advocate for better collaboration among software development teams looking to continuously improve software quality,” said Christian Wright, President and Chief Product Officer of SmartBear. “Disseminating information about industry best practices advances that mission. The results of the 2020 State of Code Review survey validate the importance of true document and code review to track and manage changes that better align with modern ways of working.”

Some of the report’s highlights include:

  • Only 49% of respondents indicated they are satisfied with their team’s code review processes
  • For the second consecutive year, “changing requirements” was the No. 1 reason for missing release deadlines
  • For the fifth consecutive year, respondents identified “code review” as the No. 1 way to improve code quality
