San Francisco, CA – May 2, 2018 – Instana, the leader in APM solutions for monitoring dynamic containerized microservice applications, today announced enhanced observability of Kubernetes systems, making it the first APM solution that can monitor and understand orchestrated applications, the orchestration system and the interdependencies between them.

DevOps Connect:DevSecOps @ RSAC 2022

“This announcement is a significant milestone for monitoring orchestrated environments by providing observability where there was previously a blind spot,” said Mirko Novakovic, CEO of Instana. “Kubernetes orchestration creates an environment of extreme abstraction between the application and the infrastructure.  This is a huge benefit for enabling high speed delivery of new code, but it creates real challenges with understanding performance issues.”

The new Kubernetes monitoring features extend Instana’s AI-powered APM solution to automatically discover, monitor and analyze Kubernetes labels, clusters and pods in addition to the orchestrated application, itself. Not only does this provide unmatched Kubernetes system visibility, it contributes additional information to Instana’s AI-assisted monitoring and troubleshooting algorithms giving users holistic observability and relational understanding between their orchestrators and application performance.

“While Kubernetes allows us to be more nimble in our operations by rapidly responding and adjusting to changes in our application layout, the new information from Instana helps us to improve our software delivery cycle time while adding and subtracting compute capacity,” said Andre Beunink, IT Director at  TrustedShops. “To reach our goals, we need precise real-time visibility and understanding of what is happening across the complete application / Kubernetes environment. Instana has risen to this challenge and delivered comprehensive observability. We now can immediately analyze the performance of any of our microservices as we deploy.”

Instana’s APM solution enables IT organizations to deliver services and applications more quickly and efficiently by automating the management of business-critical applications in containerized environments. The company’s solution leverages automation and AI to automatically monitor, visualize and understand application performance for dynamic containerized microservice applications. Continuous discovery and mapping provides real-time infrastructure and application service visualization, even under constant change.

With the new technology, Instana automatically discovers and monitors the full Kubernetes stack, leveraging tagging metadata to inform Instana how to model and monitor the services and applications under management.  This announcement essentially extends Instana’s automation, AI and real-time visualization to managed Kubernetes environments.

The new Kubernetes monitoring features are available now and will be showcased by Instana at the annual KubeCon Europe conference in Copenhagen (Booth #S-C10). You can also learn more about Instana’s Kubernetes Monitoring capabilities and Kubernetes use cases at www.instana.com.
