Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Why Collaboration Is Key

By: Veronica Haggar on January 17, 2022 Leave a Comment

Infrastructure as Code (IaC) is an essential DevOps practice that allows developers and operations teams to automatically manage and provision the infrastructure through code, instead of making configuration changes through a manual process. IaC provides transformational agility and can significantly speed delivery, reduce costs and help mitigate risks.

However, when people talk about IaC, sometimes they forget to mention its main ingredient: collaboration. The whole purpose of IaC is to enable infrastructure and software development teams to collaborate.

“It (IaC) is about making operations more developer-like,” said Rob Hirschfeld, co-founder and CEO at RackN, a software automation company that specializes in making IaC collaborative for teams, tools and tech.

Rob will be joining the Predict 2022 speaker lineup to talk about Infrastructure as Code and DevOps. During his session, “Adding IaC’s Missing Ingredient: Collaboration,” Rob will discuss how to help operations teams become more collaborative and a cohesive part of the business, and how IaC helps create and reuse automation within the system.

Rob will take a look at the future of IaC, what’s in store for infrastructure and operations teams in 2022 and share his own predictions.

During a quick interview with our very own Jackie Whetzel, Rob gave us a sneak peek of his session and shared one of his predictions for 2022.

“People are increasingly nervous about complexity but they can’t define it, that’s what makes it so cloudy,” said Rob. “The number one thing we really need to start doing is figuring out how to talk about complexity and how to manage and tame it. And I’ll give you a sneak peek. Come to my presentation, we’ll talk about using collaboration and teamwork and pipeline as ways to tame that complexity.”

Predict 2022, taking place Jan. 19-20, is a free virtual event featuring educational presentations that explore the trends, technologies and looming topics that could have the most impact on technology in this new year. Internationally recognized industry leaders, such as Rob, will share their speculations on what the future holds in the realms of DevOps, cybersecurity, digital transformation, cloud-native and IT.
