Company’s Automated Monitoring Expanded to S3, SQS, RDS, Dynamo, and Kinesis
June 6, 2018 – Berlin at the AWS Summit – Instana, the leader in APM solutions for monitoring dynamic containerized microservice applications, today announced the extension of performance monitoring support to a broad range of Amazon Web Services (AWS) products including AWS Lambda, Amazon’s premier Serverless Computing platform. In addition to the release of the new monitoring sensors for AWS native platforms, Instana also announced that their AI-powered APM solution is now available through the AWS Marketplace.
“More business applications are operating in a hybrid environment, incorporating traditional monolithic applications, wrappered with a new microservice stack, and using native AWS services. It’s now also common to see customers starting to use AWS Lambda Functions for specific microservices as well,” said Mirko Novakovic, Instana CEO. “This level of complexity requires the ability to monitor the whole environment with a single solution that can give DevOps the required observability to see and address problems, no matter where they reside.”
Instana’s new Amazon capabilities include continuous automatic discovery of specific AWS components, including Lambda, the collection of configuration, performance and health information for each platform and application performance across the entire environment, including AWS Lambda. Additional Instana AWS monitoring sensors now being monitored include:
- S3 – Amazon’s Simple Cloud Storage Service, a web scale storage solution for web applications
- SQS – the AWS messaging middleware platform
- RDS – the AWS native relational database
- Dynamo – the AWS NoSQL database
- Kinesis – a streaming optimization platform for AWS-based applications.
Instana’s AI Powered APM solution automates the management of critical business applications, even those running in cloud, containers, microservices or serverless environments. This automation empowers the optimization of application and service delivery within IT organizations by increasing the speed and efficiency of service and application delivery. The company’s solution leverages automation and AI to automatically monitor, visualize and understand application performance for dynamic containerized microservice applications. Continuous discovery and mapping provides real-time infrastructure and application service visualization, even under constant change.
By adding AWS Lambda support, Instana extends its microservice and container-based application monitoring to include code running in the Amazon Function as a Service (FaaS) platform. The additional platforms supported as part of Instana’s next-generation monitoring solution extend the power of multicloud application monitoring to include both traditional components such as SQS messaging and RDS database instances, as well as non-traditional components like Kinesis (video streaming) and AWS Lambda (FaaS). This flexibility gives application developers the autonomy to pick the exact platforms desired, knowing that DevOps has the ability to effectively monitor anything selected.
