Hanging insistently onto its .sh top-level domain tag denoting Saint Helena (a British Overseas Territory in the South Atlantic next to Ascension Island) Venue.sh has launched its own DevOps platform. Initially presented as a tool catalog for software engineering teams to access throughout their development and delivery phases, the company has lofty ambitions for extending the platform’s functionality, remit and scope.
Currently, Venue.sh offers a dedicated developer dashboard and a route to Git connection management. There is an internal software catalog of “goodies” for programmers spanning a selection of plug-ins and integrations for common workflow use case scenarios.
Orchestration & Standardization
Aiming to elevate itself beyond “traditional” code repositories, Venue.sh aims to scale into a full platform orchestrator that will provide standardization, collaboration tools, metrics and cost optimization functions.
Initial launch features include an internal tool catalog where teams can view all their code repositories and projects, providing insights about the project and the developers contributing to it. Those so-called “insights” are not just a list of names, this is where developers can get detailed insights about each project including metadata about the project, such as its status, dependencies and documentation. This helps teams understand the scope, progress, and health of their projects.
The platform is positioned as being particularly beneficial for small to medium-sized enterprises struggling with app deployment. Equally, its makers say it works well for larger organizations seeking to streamline their development processes.
“Despite the domain name reference, the .sh stands for ‘shell’ as in Unix shell, which is obviously a command-line interface used to interact with the operating system. This abbreviation is popular among tech companies offering development tools because it highlights the scripting-level power of a products,” explained Ivan Burazin, founder and CEO of Daytona, an open source development environment management solutions company that has worked with Venue.sh on this launch.
“Our collaboration will see Daytona’s cloud solution available as a plugin within the Venue.sh ecosystem,” noted Burazin. “Our partnership with Venue.sh marks a significant advancement in creating a more comprehensive and unified ecosystem for developers.”
Environmental Concerns
Daytona exists to target the inconvenient truth that pervades in so many development teams i.e. developers often spend up to half of their productive time on environment-related tasks. By integrating Daytona’s environment management with Venue’s platform, the goal is straightforward – provide engineers with a seamless toolchain.
“With Venue.sh we’ve created a platform for development teams that enhances their productivity and enables them to ship code faster, we’re giving engineers their time back, allowing them to collaborate more effectively and deliver better results faster,” said Mike Maheu, co-founder and general manager at Venue.sh. “The Venue.sh plug-in manager means teams can customize their platform to work for them. With sliding permissions, software engineers can organize projects, teams and environments with granular control and, with the connection manager, users get centralized access to all developer resources and services.”
Venue.sh has seen adoption across a diverse range of industries. Customer testimonials from sectors spanning energy solutions to digital entertainment underscore the platform’s versatility and its impact on their software development and collaboration practices:
Hardcore Metal Music
In the music and entertainment sector, Lambgoat is a hardcore and metal music webzine that has expanded into building online properties for bands and music organizations. Its team has used Venue.sh to enhance its digital offerings.
“Lambgoat’s goal is to develop and publish creative and infrastructure to ensure our clients are represented with modern websites and communication channels,” said Dylan Tarre, chief operating officer with Lambgoat. “With Venue.sh, our team no longer spends time on cross-app and cross-team synchronization issues. We can build and collaborate on complex software using a single platform, giving us a time-to-market advantage in creating cutting-edge websites and digital experiences for today’s music fans.”
Venue.sh became part of the Adaptavist Group in February 2023, and the group is a provider of technology products in managed professional services category. Venue.sh lists its key partners as AWS, Atlassian, GitLab, Sonatype and Spotify.
