Hanging insistently onto its .sh top-level domain tag denoting Saint Helena (a British Overseas Territory in the South Atlantic next to Ascension Island) Venue.sh has launched its own DevOps platform. Initially presented as a tool catalog for software engineering teams to access throughout their development and delivery phases, the company has lofty ambitions for extending the platform’s functionality, remit and scope.
Currently, Venue.sh offers a dedicated developer dashboard and a route to Git connection management. There is an internal software catalog of “goodies” for programmers spanning a selection of plug-ins and integrations for common workflow use case scenarios.
Orchestration & Standardization
Aiming to elevate itself beyond “traditional” code repositories, Venue.sh aims to scale into a full platform orchestrator that will provide standardization, collaboration tools, metrics and cost optimization functions.
Initial launch features include an internal tool catalog where teams can view all their code repositories and projects, providing insights about the project and the developers contributing to it. Those so-called “insights” are not just a list of names, this is where developers can get detailed insights about each project including metadata about the project, such as its status, dependencies and documentation. This helps teams understand the scope, progress, and health of their projects.
The platform is positioned as being particularly beneficial for small to medium-sized enterprises struggling with app deployment. Equally, its makers say it works well for larger organizations seeking to streamline their development processes.
“Despite the domain name reference, the .sh stands for ‘shell’ as in Unix shell, which is obviously a command-line interface used to interact with the operating system. This abbreviation is popular among tech companies offering development tools because it highlights the scripting-level power of a products,” explained Ivan Burazin, founder and CEO of Daytona, an open source development environment management solutions company that has worked with Venue.sh on this launch.
