Another great event we covered on the Digital Anarchist tour this summer was the JFrog swampUp event in San Francisco. Among the many great interviews we did at swampUp, one was with my friend Thomas Krane, vice president at Insight Partners. Insight Partners is one of the leading investors in both DevOps and Cybersecurity growth stage companies, and Thomas heads up those areas for Insight. Despite his youthful appearance, Thomas has a wealth of knowledge (pun intended) about this market and the players in them.
I first met Thomas at an Insight Ignite event in Iceland about four or five months ago. Being that we are both so keenly focused on similar markets, it was natural that we sat down to compare notes and learn from each other about new trends, new companies, shop talk.
JFrog is a portfolio company of Insight Partners and so Thomas came to the event. I thought it would be a great idea to sit down with him and share with you some insight on Insight Partners.
Understanding the process for how a company with over $20 billion in assets under management, sources investments, keeps abreast of market trends and new companies is beyond interesting. It literally takes a small army to track over 10,000 companies in the space. Thomas and team do a masterful job at it, but it isn’t easy.
Also for those of you out there who dream of one day getting into the VC business, Thomas gives a little background on how he got into it as an intern in school still. It is a great story of hard work paying off.
Have a listen for yourself.
